Hebrews 2:12-13 nkjv2 Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. 2 For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just [b]reward, 3 how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,
❓How has being a Christian changed you for the better ❓What do you struggle with the most as a Christian ❓
💥 We can “DRIFT” as Christians. *** We all sin… so we all drift to some degree. We drift by:
A. To be: Spiritually - Mentally - Physically.
B To be going:
C. To be-- the place we are not to be. In bad places.
How do we drift?
1. Have no anchor! Hebrews 6:12 We let go of our hope in Christ and try to find it in other things.
2. No power to fight the current. The wind of God. The Holy Spirit.
3. Letting the current take us away.
Currents that make us drift:
A. We get focused on things we are not be focused on.Colossians 3:2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
Romans 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
B. False security: 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
C. No resistance: James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
D. Confusion: 1 Corinthianas 14:33 For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,
E. Living in our comfort zones. Luke 12:19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.” ’
Many Others!
What does this teach? To not drift:
1. We need Christ in our boat! The right Captain! Jesus! John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
2. The right engine. The Word of God. By what we live, move and breathe. Matt.4:4 But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” 2 Timothy 3:16 - 17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
3. The right fuel. The Holy Spirit. Walk in the Spirit and we will not drift. Galatians 5:16-17 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
4. The right direction. The path that the light of God’s Word shows us.
➢ Read the Word
➢ Fellowship with God daily. Worship and praise Him
➢ Allow His word to keep you and take you where you are supposed to be.
