1 Samuel 1:21-23 nkjv Mother’s Day
21 Now the man Elkanah and all his house went up to offer to the Lord the yearly sacrifice and his vow. 22 But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, “Not until the child is weaned; then I will take him, that he may appear before the Lord and remain there forever.” 23 So Elkanah her husband said to her, “Do what seems best to you; wait until you have weaned him. Only let the Lord establish His word.” Then the woman stayed and nursed her son until she had weaned him.
1 Samuel 2: 18-21 18 But Samuel ministered before the Lord, even as a child, wearing a linen ephod. 19 Moreover his mother used to make him a little robe, and bring it to him year by year when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice. 20 And Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, and say, “The Lord give you descendants from this woman for the loan that was given to the Lord.” Then they would go to their own home. 21 And the Lord visited Hannah, so that she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile the child Samuel grew before the Lord.
❓What is your most favorite memory of your mother?❓What did you learn from your mother that you have passed down to others?❓
💥⭐ No matter what great things Samuel did in history or how mightily God used him to affect the world for thousands of years, we can never get away from the fact that it all started with his mother Hannah.
➢ From there, Samuel became a very special and mighty man of God, 🚩 the last real judge over Israel before kings were chosen. 🚩 God spoke to him. 🚩God used him to choose Saul and David as kings. 🚩 He still led and helped the kings. ➢ 🚩 They sought Samuel for help and advice. Samuel was top man connected with God.
💥 Again, no matter what the accomplishments of Samuel were, his mother had a hand in them all. <<<<< The dads have their part in this too, so it’s not just a Mother’s Day sermon.
💥 How did Hannah make such a difference?
I. HER HEART WAS RIGHT WITH GOD. V21 21 Now the man Elkanah and all his house went up to offer to the Lord the yearly sacrifice and his vow.
💥 It was my own mother that I remember taking us to church and trying to get us to be quiet and to behave during the church services.
II. She didn’t just dedicate her child to God, she dedicated him to serve God.
⭐ The Jewish historian Josephus says Samuel was twelve when he was given to the Lord.
⭐ The motherhood of Hannah!
💥 How different our world would be if we had moms that still raised their children not to just be symbolically dedicated to God, but raised them to love God and take an active part in serving God from childhood up.
💥 Being the example at home of having quiet time, Bible reading and teaching her kids first and foremost to be a part of the kingdom of God and serve God, no matter what age they are.
III. She encouraged Samuel. 💥 The message of the robe. 💥
⭐ How many times in our own life has encouragement from our parents been a key factor in making huge differences in our life?
⭐ The message Samuel needed to hear-- one of the smallest things that Hannah did that perhaps helped Samuel the most.
➢ The message of the robe: You are doing right. - We have not forgotten you. - I’m thinking of you. - I’m proud of you. - I want to support you.➢ Keep doing what you are doing and don’t give up.
💥 It was her part of being a part of all he was doing.
💥 When we honor our Mom:Ephesians 6:1-3 njkv1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: 3 “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”
➣ He will bless us in our living! (How you treat your mom (and dad) ) 1. It will bring God’s favor and blessings in our life in all that we do. Be well with you….2. It will have an effect on our physical life and health. ….. You will live long …..3. In short, how we treat our mother can set the whole course of life.
